Unilock Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Unilock-compatible driveway pavers across Dallas, with full paver driveway installations typically running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base prep, and pattern complexity. Most homeowners call us after a paver has cracked, sunk, or shifted out of alignment, usually within three to five years of the original install. The problem is rarely the paver itself. It’s almost always what’s underneath it, and that’s where a Dallas paver repair goes right or wrong.
Unilock makes a solid product, and the pavers themselves are rarely the weak link. What we see most often in Dallas is base failure: the clay soil under a driveway shifts with moisture, the sand or gravel base wasn’t compacted in lifts, and one corner drops half an inch. Then a paver cracks under tire load where the base stopped supporting it. The fix isn’t swapping one paver and calling it done. It’s re-setting the pocket properly so the next paver doesn’t crack the same way six months later.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Most driveways we work on in Dallas use Unilock’s Series 3000 or Mattoni lines for vehicular applications. The Series 3000 paver runs 80mm thick, which is the minimum we’d ever want under regular car and truck traffic. Mattoni pavers are thinner at 60mm and are rated for residential driveways, but we’ve pulled enough cracked Mattoni out of Dallas driveways to know they need a flawless base underneath. If you’re not sure what you have, flip a paver and look for the Unilock stamp on the underside. The mold number tells us the series, and we can match it without guessing.
One compatibility note worth knowing: Unilock runs different regional plants, and the color blends aren’t identical across the country. A paver from a Texas distributor won’t always match the same named color from a Midwest plant. If you’re patching an existing driveway, we match from the same regional lot when we can, or we’ll pull pavers from a less visible section and use the new ones there so the patch doesn’t shout at you from the driveway apron. As for OEM versus aftermarket: Unilock doesn’t sell “parts,” per se. You’re buying pavers, edge restraint, bedding sand, and jointing compound. We use Unilock pavers matched to your existing install and Unilock’s recommended bedding and jointing materials, because generic polymeric sand with the wrong joint width is a fast way to watch your “repair” wash out after two Dallas rain seasons.

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken depressions in the wheel tracks. This is base failure, full stop. Dallas clay expands and contracts with moisture, and if the gravel base wasn’t compacted in 4-inch lifts, those wheel ruts will show up within three years. The paver didn’t fail. The substrate did.
- Cracked pavers along the edges. Edge restraint is missing, broken, or was never installed. Without proper edge restraint, pavers spread outward under load, then crack at the weakest point. We see this constantly at driveway aprons where someone skipped the concrete edge restraint to save a day of labor.
- Gaps developing between pavers. The sand jointing is washing out, or the pavers are shifting because the base is moving underneath. Left alone, those gaps become weeds, then ant colonies, then pavers that rock under your foot.
- Pavers rocking visibly when stepped on. That means the bedding layer is inconsistent or the base has settled unevenly. A rocking paver is seconds away from cracking at a corner, especially under vehicle weight.
- Standing water on the surface after rain. Driveways need a slight crown to drain, and when the base settles unevenly, water pools. In Dallas, standing water on a paver driveway freezes just often enough in winter to do real damage during a hard freeze, and pools get slippery long before that.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Dallas homes, full Unilock paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000. Driveway replacement, where we remove the old surface and rebuild with Unilock pavers, falls in the $5,000 – $14,000 range. Partial repairs where we re-set a sunken section, replace cracked pavers, and re-establish proper drainage typically land between $800 and $3,000 depending on how much base rebuilding is needed and how many pavers have to come out.
What drives the price up or down: total square footage, how much base material has to be excavated and replaced, paver pattern complexity, and whether we’re matching an existing install or building new. Every quote includes the base preparation, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, jointing compound, and cleanup. You get a written price before any work starts, and the number on that paper is the number on your invoice. If the repair fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, in writing, as part of our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
The honest answer: paver repair is one of those jobs that looks simple on a Saturday morning and turns into a week of pain by Sunday afternoon. You can safely check things yourself. Pull a paver, look at the bedding layer, see if it’s sand or just dirt. Look for missing edge restraint around the driveway perimeter. Check drainage after rain. What you shouldn’t do, in our experience, is try to re-set a load-bearing section of driveway without compacting the base properly. We’ve been called to more than one Dallas driveway where a homeowner pulled pavers, added a bag of sand from the hardware store, and watched the same depression come back four weeks later. Paver work is heavy but not dangerous like a garage spring or electrical panel. Still, the mistake isn’t a small cosmetic one. It’s a sunken driveway that now costs more to fix because the first attempt did nothing. If you’d rather not spend your weekend on it, call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll put eyes on it.
FAQs

Unilock pavers themselves typically last 25 to 50 years in Dallas conditions. The surface rarely fails first. The base and edge restraint are the parts that fail in 5 to 10 years if they weren’t installed correctly, and those are the repairs we handle most often.
Yes, if the sinking is localized and the rest of the base is sound. We re-set the affected section, rebuild the base underneath, and re-establish the drainage. If the base is failing across the entire driveway, patching becomes a losing game, and we’ll tell you that before quoting a repair. Call (940) 204-5368 for an honest assessment either way.
Most partial repairs in Dallas take one to two days. A full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on square footage and how much old base has to be excavated. We give you a defined arrival window and finish on the schedule we quote, not the one that sounded good on the phone.
We stock common Unilock Series 3000 and Mattoni colors used frequently in Dallas. If your color or mold number isn’t on the truck, we source it through the regional Unilock distributor, and that typically adds one to three days. We’ll confirm availability before we schedule, so you’re not waiting on a promise we can’t keep.
