Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko-compatible driveway and paver replacement materials across Dallas, with most installed jobs running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and the specific Tamko product line you’re matching. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a paver that’s sunk an inch below its neighbors after a heavy rain, or a driveway edge that’s started crumbling into the flower bed. If you’re seeing that, you’re not crazy, and you’re not alone.
Dallas clay soil expands and contracts like a lung. It heaves pavers out of alignment, cracks rigid surfaces, and slowly eats the base layer from underneath. What you’re looking at is rarely a Tamko product defect. It’s almost always what’s underneath the product, and that’s fixable without tearing out your entire driveway.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver and driveway segment covers several product lines, but the two we see most often in Dallas are the Tamko Building Products paver systems used in residential driveways and the asphalt-based driveway coatings and sealants Tamko distributes through roofing and exterior supply houses. The compatibility gotcha: Tamko pavers are manufactured in modular sizing, usually 60mm or 80mm thickness, and the 60mm residential pavers are not rated for vehicular traffic. If a previous owner installed 60mm pavers on a driveway, that’s your failure point, and it’s a common one in older Dallas neighborhoods like Lake Highlands and Casa View.
For sealants and coatings, the question is whether you’re working with a coal tar-based or asphalt-based emulsion. Tamko’s asphalt-based line is the one we recommend for Texas heat because coal tar gets soft and sticky in a Dallas August. Matching a failed sealcoat to the wrong chemistry is the fastest way to watch it fail again by October.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or tilted pavers near the driveway edges. This is nearly always a base failure, which in Dallas means clay soil that was never properly excavated and replaced with compacted crushed stone. The paver itself is fine; the ground under it moved.
- Hairline cracks spidering across a sealed surface. Tamko sealants crack when they’re applied too thick or when the underlying asphalt has started flexing. Once water gets under the sealcoat, the failure accelerates through winter freezes.
- White, chalky residue on the paver surface. This is efflorescence, and while it’s cosmetic, persistent efflorescence in Dallas tells you water is being trapped beneath the pavers rather than draining through a proper base.
- Loose wobble underfoot where pavers meet the garage apron. The apron is the highest-traffic point on any driveway, and when the base washes out there, pavers start rocking. Left alone, they crack.
- Weeds or grass growing through joints. Polymeric sand joints fail when water pools instead of draining. In Dallas, that means the jointing material was never properly compacted, or the paver spacing is too wide for the product.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Tamko-compatible paver driveway replacement in Dallas typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed. The range depends on three things: total square footage, the condition of the existing base, and whether you’re replacing a section or the whole driveway. A partial repair, such as re-setting a 200-square-foot sunken section with new base, usually falls between $1,500 and $4,000.
Every quote includes removal and disposal of failed material, excavation to the proper depth, new compacted base, Tamko-compatible pavers or sealant, and re-jointing. We write the number before we start, so the quote you sign is the invoice you pay. If something fails inside the first year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it at no charge. In writing, on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the driveway after a rain and mark every spot where water pools instead of draining. That’s useful information for us either way. You can also measure your paver thickness at an exposed edge. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling pavers and re-setting them without a compacted base. The moment you remove a paver, you’ve broken the joint lock, and if the base underneath is compromised, you’ll make the problem bigger than it was. Re-compacting a driveway base requires plate compactors and, frankly, experience with Dallas clay. We’d rather you call us before you’re three pavers deep into a Saturday afternoon. FAQs

A correctly installed paver driveway with a proper base should last 25 – 30 years in Dallas, while sealcoats need re-application every 2 – 4 years depending on sun exposure and traffic. The pavers themselves rarely fail; the base or the jointing material fails first. Call (940) 204-5368 if you’re unsure which layer is the problem.
Yes, in most cases we can lift the failed section, re-compact or replace the base, and re-set the original pavers without buying new material. The exception is cracked pavers, which have to be swapped, but matching Tamko sizing makes that straightforward. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in during the estimate.
A partial repair like re-setting a sunken section usually takes one to two working days, including base compaction and joint sand. A full driveway replacement typically runs three to five days depending on access and square footage. We’ll give you a written schedule with the estimate.
We keep common Tamko-compatible paver sizes and base materials in stock on our trucks, along with the same trade brands we use across our remodeling work, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior projects. For larger jobs, we order exact-match material from our Dallas suppliers, which usually arrives within two to three business days. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck today.
