CGI Windows & Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock CGI-compatible window and door hardware, and most replacement parts run $80 – $600 installed depending on the component. The usual story goes like this: a crank handle spins without moving the sash, a door latch stops catching, or a roller sounds like gravel in a track. You notice it, you ignore it for three weeks, and then one morning the window won’t close at all.
CGI builds heavy coastal-grade windows and doors, and Dallas weather treats them differently than a Florida beach house does. We see more thermal seal failures from the dry heat cycling, and more roller wear from dust than salt. The parts themselves are built to take a hurricane; the trick is knowing which component actually failed so you don’t replace the whole window when a $12 clip would have fixed it.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

We work on CGI’s full window and door lineup, including the Estate Collection, Targa, and Sentry series, plus their sliding glass doors and hinged French doors. The compatibility gotcha most Dallas homeowners run into is this: CGI changed roller housing widths between the Targa and Sentry production runs, and a roller that looks identical from eight inches away will bind in the track if you guess wrong. The part number matters more than the photo.
The easiest way to identify your window is the silver AAMA sticker on the frame or the etching in the corner of the glass. It lists the series, the manufacturing date, and the impact rating (usually DP-50 or DP-60). If the sticker is gone, measure the visible glass width and the frame depth, and we can usually match it from there. When OEM parts are backordered, we carry quality aftermarket equivalents from Caldwell and Truth Hardware that meet the same load ratings, and we’ll always tell you which one is going in before we install it.

Signs Your CGI Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The crank handle turns but the sash doesn’t move. The worm gear inside the operator is stripped, usually because the sash was forced open past its stop. The operator needs replacing, not lubricating.
- The window closes but won’t lock. The keeper on the frame has drifted out of alignment, or the lock’s cam has worn flat. In Dallas, thermal expansion of the aluminum frame on west-facing walls makes this worse over a few hot summers.
- You feel a draft even when the window is latched. The weatherstripping has compressed or the corner seals have dried out. Dallas heat accelerates rubber failure, and we typically see weatherstripping last 6 – 9 years here versus longer in coastal climates.
- The sliding door sticks or jumps the track. Worn tandem rollers are the culprit about 80 percent of the time. The other 20 percent is a bent track or debris in the channel, which is why we inspect before we quote a price.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed and the argon fill has escaped. This isn’t repairable, but replacing the IGU is far cheaper than replacing the entire window.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what CGI window and door part replacement typically runs in Dallas:
| Part Replaced | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Crank operator (single window) | $120 – $240 |
| Lock assembly and keeper | $80 – $180 |
| Sliding door roller set | $150 – $320 |
| Weatherstripping (full window) | $90 – $200 |
| Insulated glass unit (per sash) | $250 – $600 |
| Sliding door handle set | $110 – $260 |
The range comes down to part availability, your window’s series, and whether we’re matching an OEM component or installing a proven aftermarket equivalent. Every quote is written before any work starts, in line with The Kingswell Way our company has operated under since 2004. You’ll know the part cost, the labor, and the total before we touch a screw. And if the part fails inside a year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s my honest split on it. Swapping a crank handle or replacing a wave spring clip is a ten-minute job if you have the right part in hand, and it won’t damage anything if you get it wrong. The line I’d draw is at anything involving the balance system or removing a sash. CGI sashes are heavy, the balances are under real tension, and a sash that comes out wrong on an upper floor is a broken window and a bad afternoon.
Same goes for sliding door rollers. The door has to come out to access the roller housings, and that’s a two-person lift with glass in it. If you want to verify the part yourself, we’ll help you identify it; if you want it installed and warrantied, call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll put a written number in your hand before anything gets taken apart.
FAQs

Plan on 8 – 12 years for most moving parts: crank operators, rollers, and locks. The glass units themselves often last 15 – 25 years. Our Dallas heat and dust shorten the mechanical parts’ life compared to what you’d see in a coastal climate.
Rarely. Most CGI failed parts are either stripped (operators), flattened (weatherstripping), or seized (rollers), none of which can be restored reliably once they’ve gone. Replacement gets you a new part with a warranty instead of a patched one. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll tell you which camp yours falls in.
Single-part replacements like a crank operator or lock run 30 – 60 minutes at your home. An insulated glass unit replacement takes 1 – 2 hours because the sash has to come out, be reglazed, and go back in. We stock common CGI-compatible parts on the truck, so most jobs finish in one visit.
We keep the common components in our Dallas trucks: crank operators, lock sets, roller sets, handle hardware, and weatherstripping for all the CGI series. Specialty pieces, like a specific insulated glass unit, get ordered and typically arrive within 5 – 10 business days. You’ll know the lead time before you approve the work.
