Barrette Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

We install Barrette-compatible driveway and paver systems across Dallas, with complete paver driveway installations typically running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base prep, and the specific Barrette paver line you’re matching. We stock common Barrette paver profiles and edging components on our trucks, so most repairs and section replacements can be quoted and started the same week, not next month. The way most Dallas homeowners find us is this: they notice a sunken section near the curb, a paver that’s cracked along the edge, or an area where the polymeric sand has washed out after a heavy storm, and they want to know if the whole driveway needs to go or just part of it.

Here’s what you should know before you spend another dollar on it: a failing section rarely means the whole driveway is shot. More often it’s a base problem in one area, a broken edge restraint, or a drainage issue that’s been quietly eroding the sub-base for a season or two. We’ll walk you through exactly what to look for, what it costs to fix in Dallas, and when a repair makes more sense than a full replacement.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette Outdoor Living makes several paver and hardscape product lines, and the compatibility details matter more than most homeowners expect. The paver profiles we see most often in Dallas driveways are their interlocking concrete pavers in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses, along with their edging and restraint systems. The 60mm pavers are fine for pedestrian areas and light-duty driveways, but for a two-car driveway in Dallas clay soil, you really want the 80mm or better. Clay expands and contracts with our wet-dry cycles, and the thinner pavers telegraph every movement through the surface.

Identifying your specific paver is straightforward if you know where to look. Check the underside of a loose paver, or pull one from the edge if it’s already lifting. Barrette stamps their product identifier on the side or bottom of most pavers, usually a series code and sometimes a color lot number. The color lot matters more than people think: pavers made in different production runs will sit side by side and look close, but not identical, especially in direct Dallas sun after a year of UV exposure. If you’re matching an existing driveway, we always recommend pulling a sample and matching from the current production lot, not the original one from eight years ago. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Barrette pavers specifically, aftermarket equivalents are hard to match cleanly because Barrette uses proprietary color blends. For edge restraints and base materials, quality aftermarket products perform identically and cost less. We’ll tell you which is which without making you guess.

Signs Your Barrette Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sunken or depressed areas near the edges or center. This almost always points to base failure beneath the pavers, not the pavers themselves. In Dallas, our expansive clay soil shrinks during dry spells and swells after rain, and if the base was never compacted in lifts or the subgrade wasn’t stabilized, the surface follows the movement.
  • Cracks running through individual pavers in a pattern. A single cracked paver is usually impact damage. Multiple pavers cracked in a line or grid suggests the base has shifted under load, and the pavers are now bearing weight they were never meant to carry alone.
  • Washed-out joints where the sand keeps disappearing. Polymeric sand fails when water moves through the joints instead of over the surface. That means drainage is compromised somewhere uphill of the paver field, and if you keep refilling joints without fixing the drainage, you’ll refill them every spring.
  • Spreading or drifting pavers at the perimeter. Once the edge restraint loosens or rots (if someone used timber edging), the whole field loses lateral tension. Pavers start to walk outward under vehicle load, and the gaps widen from the outside in.
  • Standing water that wasn’t there before. If puddles now linger for hours after rain in spots where the driveway used to shed water fine, the surface has lost its slope or the base has settled unevenly. Left alone, that trapped water accelerates every other failure mode on this list.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

For Dallas homeowners, a section repair on a Barrette paver driveway typically runs $800 – $2,500, while a full paver driveway replacement on a standard two-car driveway runs $7,000 – $18,000, and a new paver driveway installation on bare ground falls in that same $7,000 – $18,000 range depending on access and how much base correction the soil requires. Here’s what actually drives the number: the square footage, whether we’re reusing any of the existing pavers, how much of the old base needs to be removed and recompacted, and whether drainage needs to be corrected as part of the job. In Dallas, we also factor in the clay soil reality: if the original installation failed because of inadequate base prep, the fix has to include base work or you’re just buying a more expensive version of the same failure.

Every quote we write includes the parts, the labor, the haul-away, and the written number you hold us to. We write the price before any work starts, and the price on day one is the price on the invoice. If something fails inside the first year, we come back and fix it under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, at no charge. You don’t pay a service call for a re-visit. You call us, we show up, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the perimeter and look for gaps in the edge restraint, hose down the surface and watch where water pools, and pull one loose paver from the edge to see what the base actually looks like underneath. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling up sections and re-laying them without a plate compactor and properly graded base material. A paver that’s set on uncompacted base will sink within weeks, and you’ll have spent a weekend creating a worse version of the problem you started with. Paving work isn’t high-tension dangerous like a garage spring, but it will strain your back and test your patience, and a redo costs more than doing it once the right way.

If you’ve got a section that’s sinking, cracking, or washing out, call us at (940) 204-5368. Trevor Nash will give you a number before picking up a tool, that’s the only way he knows how to start.
