Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Ameristar kitchen remodeling in Dallas typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout changes. We stock Ameristar-compatible cabinet hardware, hinges, drawer slides, and replacement door fronts, and we can usually match your existing finish within a week. Most Dallas homeowners discover a problem the same way: a drawer starts dragging, a door won’t close square, or a hinge pops loose after years of Texas humidity working on the frame.

You’re not looking for a sales pitch here. You’re looking for a straight answer about whether the part can be matched, what it costs, and whether it’s worth fixing versus replacing the whole run of cabinets. That’s exactly what this page covers.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Ameristar built kitchen cabinet lines for several Texas builders through the 1990s and 2000s, but they didn’t stamp model numbers on every box the way a furnace manufacturer would. What we see most often in Dallas kitchens is the Ameristar full-overlay line with concealed cup hinges and the Ameristar standard-overlay line with exposed barrel hinges. The full-overlay versions use a 35mm cup bore drilled into the door back, and the hinge pattern is 48mm between mounting screws. The standard-overlay versions use a 26mm offset hinge with a 3/8-inch lip.

The difference matters because a full-overlay hinge won’t retrofit onto a standard-overlay door without redrilling the cup, and redrilling a finished door usually chips the laminate. We keep both hinge types on the truck. If you’re trying to identify yours, pull one hinge off and measure the cup diameter or look for a stamped number on the hinge arm. A number starting with “A5” or “A7” is the Ameristar full-overlay series; “B3” is standard overlay.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Ameristar used two different drawer slide widths within the same cabinet line, 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch, depending on which Texas plant shipped the box. If you order a replacement slide based on the cabinet’s nominal width instead of measuring the actual slide rail, it won’t seat. We measure the rail before ordering anything.

OEM Ameristar parts are getting harder to source as the original distributor network thinned out. For hinges and slides, we’ve had good results with Blum and Salice aftermarket hardware, which matches the bore pattern and carries its own warranty. For door fronts, we often recommend KraftMaid or Wellborn replacement doors in the same profile and finish, because Ameristar door blanks are no longer produced. For countertop replacement, we install Cambria and Silestone, both of which hold up better in Dallas kitchens than the laminate that often came with the original Ameristar build.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Doors sag or won’t stay closed. The hinge spring wears out first, especially on the full-overlay 35mm hinges. Once the spring goes, the door drifts open about an inch and won’t self-close. In Dallas, the dry summer heat accelerates spring fatigue by breaking down the internal grease.
  • Drawers stick, drag, or drop on one side. The nylon rollers inside the slide degrade and then the metal track starts scoring. If you hear a grinding sound when you open the drawer, the ball bearings have already failed and the slide is eating itself.
  • Cabinet doors show gaps that weren’t there when the house went in. This is usually the mounting plate loosening from the frame, not a hinge problem. Dallas clay soil shifts foundations over time, and that movement pulls cabinet frames out of square. The fix is re-shimming and re-mounting, not just tightening screws.
  • Finish peeling or bubbling at the edges of doors near the sink or range. That’s moisture penetration from the Dallas humidity cycle. Once the laminate lifts, the particleboard core swells and the door won’t recover. Replacement is the honest fix.
  • Soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damper inside the hinge or slide has blown. You can replace the damper cartridge on some Ameristar soft-close hinges without replacing the whole hinge. We stock the cartridges for the A7 series; for older A5 hinges, the whole hinge needs swapping.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

Here’s what Dallas homeowners should expect to pay for Ameristar kitchen replacement work, parts and labor together:

  • Cabinet hinge or slide replacement (a handful of doors or drawers): $400 – $1,500
  • Full kitchen cabinet hardware swap (hinges, slides, and knobs throughout): $1,500 – $4,000
  • Replacement door fronts only (match existing frames): $4,000 – $9,000
  • New cabinet installation (full run, KraftMaid or Wellborn): $4,000 – $13,000
  • Countertop replacement (Cambria or Silestone quartz): $2,000 – $6,500
  • Complete Ameristar kitchen remodel (cabinets, countertops, backsplash, island): $14,000 – $45,000

What drives the number up or down is door count, whether you’re painting or replacing, and whether we’re pulling countertops to reset the cabinet boxes. Every quote we give is a written number before any work starts. No verbal ballpark, no change order on day two. The price on the first line is the price on the invoice.

Every part we install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a hinge fails, a drawer sticks, or a door drops inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee. That’s the Kingswell standard we’ve operated under since 2004.

DIY or Call Us?

Some Ameristar hardware work is genuinely safe to check yourself. You can tighten a loose mounting screw, clean a gummed-up drawer track, or swap a knob without calling anyone. The hinges and drawer slides are where I’d slow down. A full-overlay 35mm hinge holds the door under spring tension, and if you loosen the wrong screw while it’s loaded, the door can twist and chip the adjacent panel. Replacing a drawer slide usually means leveling the drawer box in three planes, and if you get the height off by a sixteenth of an inch, the drawer binds and the new slide wears out in months.

The other honest issue is sourcing. A lot of the “Ameristar-compatible” hardware for sale online is generic import stock drilled for the wrong cup depth. We’ve replaced several of those on follow-up calls in the Park Cities and Lakewood areas. If you’d rather not deal with the measuring, the matching, and the return shipping, call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll come out, identify the exact part, and give you a written price before we touch a screw.
