Abodu Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If your Abodu driveway or paver system is cracking, shifting, or pooling water, we can help. Penhallow Remodeling Dallas installs and replaces Abodu-compatible driveway pavers throughout Dallas, with most jobs running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most homeowners discover the problem after a heavy Texas rain, when water stops draining and starts pooling against the foundation, or when a paver edge sinks and creates a trip hazard near the front walk.

We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not affiliated with Abodu, but we work on their driveway and paver systems regularly enough to know exactly what fails, what’s worth repairing, and when a full reset makes more sense than patching. Trevor Nash has been clear about one thing since we started serving Dallas: you get a written price before any work starts, and a 365-day guarantee that says if it’s not done right, we make it right.

Which Abodu Models This Applies To

A wide opening with a new beam where the kitchen wall was removed

Abodu’s driveway and paver systems show up most often on their detached ADU units and compact home packages popular in Dallas backyards from Lake Highlands to Bishop Arts. The paver dimensions follow a modular grid, typically 4×8 and 8×8 concrete pavers in a running bond or herringbone pattern, but the critical variable is the base depth spec. Abodu installations call for a 4-to-6-inch compacted base, and we’ve seen a number of Dallas jobs where the original base was laid at 2 to 3 inches because the soil looked “good enough.” In Dallas’ clay-heavy soils, which expand and contract dramatically through wet and dry seasons, that shallow base is exactly why pavers start shifting within three to five years.

For replacement parts, you can match the original Abodu paver with a quality aftermarket unit from Belgard or Unilock, which we stock and install. The important thing is measuring the paver height, not just width and length. Abodu’s standard pavers sit at 60mm thick, while some aftermarket equivalents measure 50mm. Installing a thinner paver in a herringbone pattern will leave the surface uneven at the joints within a season. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll verify the spec before ordering anything.

Signs Your Abodu Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Water pooling after rain: This usually means the base layer has compacted unevenly or the original slope was never set correctly for Dallas drainage. Left alone, standing water works its way under the pavers and accelerates base erosion.
  • Paver edges sinking: The perimeter is the first place a shallow base shows itself. When the outside rows drop, they pull the next row with them, and the whole edge line starts to wave.
  • Gaps opening between pavers: Clay soil shrinks in dry Dallas summers, which can cause the sand joints to widen. If those gaps exceed a quarter inch, water intrusion gets ahead of whatever joint sand you sweep back in.
  • Rocking pavers: Place your foot on a paver and shift your weight. If it rocks, the bedding layer beneath has failed or was never screeded level. Rocking pavers crack at the corners within a season.
  • Weeds or grass pushing through: This signals the joint sand has washed out and organic material is taking root. It’s fixable with re-sanding, but if the base is shifting too, re-sanding alone buys you a year at most.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A single-story rear room addition with tall windows and a new patio

In Dallas, a full Abodu driveway and paver replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000, installed. The spread comes down to three things: total square footage, whether we can salvage the existing base or need a full excavation and re-compaction, and the paver line you choose. Belgard and Unilock both carry strong warranties, and we install both alongside the original Abodu-style paver where you want to keep the look consistent.

Every quote includes the pavers, a compacted base at the proper depth for Dallas soil, sand joints, edge restraint, and haul-away of the old material. You’ll get a written line-item price before any work starts, and if anything fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-inspection fee. No we’ll-see. That’s the Penhallow way, and it’s in writing on every job.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single cracked paver in the middle of the field is a manageable Saturday project if the base underneath is sound. Pull the paver, check the bedding layer, replace, and re-sand the joints. But if you’re seeing sinking edges, water pooling, or rocking pavers in more than one spot, the problem is underneath the surface, and hand-fixing pavers on top of a failed base is throwing good money after bad.

Excavating and re-compacting a Dallas driveway base is not a rental-tamper job. It requires proper compaction equipment and an understanding of how clay soil behaves through our wet springs and dry summers. If you want a straight answer on what needs fixing and what it should cost, call us at (940) 204-5368. Give you a number before I pick up a tool, that’s the only way I know how to start.
