Master Halco Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got a Master Halco fence that’s sagging, leaning, or pulling loose at the posts, we can match the components and get it standing straight again. A typical Master Halco-compatible fence installation in Dallas runs $3,500 – $9,000 depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re replacing panels, rails, or the entire run. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a gate that drags, a post that wobbles when you push it, or a section that’s suddenly leaning after one of our March windstorms.

We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not affiliated with Master Halco, but we work with their product lines regularly. Trevor Nash has seen enough North Texas fence failures to know that the part itself is rarely the whole story. The installation underneath it usually is.

Which Master Halco Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Master Halco manufactures a wide range of fence systems, but the lines we see most often in Dallas backyards are the PostMaster steel post system, Classic series wood privacy fencing, ColorWave and EverGrain composite lines, and their ornamental aluminum and chain link products. Each line uses different post dimensions, rail brackets, and panel widths, so matching the part to the existing run is the first real decision.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Dallas homeowners: PostMaster posts are not interchangeable with standard pressure-treated 4x4s. They’re a galvanized steel U-channel designed to be set in concrete and paired with specific bracket kits. If your old wood post rotted out and you’re replacing it, you can’t just drop a wood post into a PostMaster bracket and call it done. The bracket spacing and rail attachment points won’t line up. Before we quote any Master Halco fence installation, we identify the post type, measure the panel width (usually 6′ or 8′ on center), and check whether the rails are 2×3 or 2×4. Those three measurements eliminate about 90% of ordering mistakes.

On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question: for PostMaster steel posts and brackets, we recommend staying with OEM. The tolerances are tight and generic brackets tend to wobble. For wood pickets, rails, and caps, a quality cedar aftermarket option from a local Dallas lumber supplier often matches or beats OEM pricing without any quality loss. We’ll give you a written price for either path before any work starts, so you’re deciding with real numbers, not a hope.

Signs Your Master Halco Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean within 12 – 18 months of install. This almost always means the footing was too shallow for Dallas clay soil or the concrete wasn’t mixed dry enough. North Texas clay expands and contracts aggressively; a post set less than 24″ deep will move.
  • Gate sag that won’t adjust out. The Master Halco gate frame may be fine, but the hinge screws have pulled loose from a post that’s started to rot or rust at the base. Tightening won’t fix it because the wood is gone behind the screw.
  • Pickets popping off at the rail line. This happens when the rails were nailed instead of screwed, or when the installer used interior-grade fasteners that corrode in our freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Rail splitting along the grain. Cedar expands with our humidity swings. If the rail was notched too deep or installed without enough spacing, it splits right where the bracket sits.
  • Ground-line rot on the posts. The bottom 6 inches of a wood post sits in direct contact with damp soil. If the installer skipped gravel at the base or didn’t slope the concrete cap, that post starts breaking down within 3 – 5 Texas summers.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

In Dallas, a Master Halco-compatible fence installation typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 installed. Here’s what drives that range:

  • Linear footage: A 60-foot run with a gate will land near the low end; a 200-foot perimeter with two gates, corner posts, and a concrete-mow curb pushes toward $9,000.
  • Post condition: If the existing PostMaster steel posts are still solid, we can save you hundreds by reusing them. If the posts are rotted or leaning, full replacement with new PostMaster posts and footings adds $40 – $70 per post.
  • Material choice: Cedar pickets vs. EverGrain composite panels changes material cost by roughly 3x. Composite runs quiet and wears longer, but the upfront is higher.
  • Removal and disposal: If we’re tearing out an old fence, haul-away runs $300 – $700 depending on the run length and whether we can get a trailer into the alley.

Every quote is written, line-itemed, and honored. The number on day one is the number on the invoice. And if something fails inside a year, our 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing, not in a handshake.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few safe checks you can do yourself: push each post to see if it flexes, look for exposed fasteners at the rail joints, and run a hose along the base to see where water pools. But once you’re digging footings, pulling old concrete slugs, or resetting a steel PostMaster post that’s carrying 70 pounds of gate, DIY goes sideways fast. A post leaning 4 inches is under tension the whole time you’re working on it. If it lets go while your hands are in the hole, that’s a broken finger or worse. We come at it with proper bracing, a post puller, and the right concrete mix for Dallas clay. If you’re unsure whether your fence needs a repair or a reset, call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll give you a straight answer before you pick up a shovel.
