Barrette Kitchen Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Barrette-compatible kitchen remodeling hardware in Dallas, and a full kitchen remodel here typically runs $14,000 – $45,000, depending on layout, cabinet line, and countertop material. Most Barrette owners call us after a hinge gives out, a drawer slide seizes, or a cabinet face has pulled loose from years of North Texas humidity swings. The call usually starts the same way: “Can you match this, or am I replacing the whole kitchen?”

Call (940) 204-5368

The short answer is you’re almost never replacing the whole kitchen. We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not affiliated with Barrette, but we work with their cabinet lines regularly and know which parts interchange and which ones don’t. If you can get us a photo of the failed part and a measurement, we can usually tell you on the first call whether it’s a simple swap or something that needs a shop order.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette cabinet lines show up in a lot of Dallas homes built between roughly 1995 and 2015, especially in the first-ring suburbs and mid-century neighborhoods that went through big renovation waves in the early 2000s. The most common lines we see are the framed-style cabinets with concealed hinges and the Euro-style frameless boxes used in a lot of builder-grade kitchens from that era. The identifying detail that matters most is the hinge cup diameter and the drawer slide length. Barrette used a mix of soft-close and standard-action hardware depending on the product tier, and swapping a soft-close hinge for a standard one won’t work on the same door geometry.

Here’s the gotcha we run into regularly: a Barrette cabinet from a big-box store and a Barrette cabinet from a kitchen showroom sometimes use different hardware specs, even when the door style looks identical. The face may match, but the hinge spacing or slide mounting bracket won’t. Before you order anything online, pull one hinge off and measure the cup diameter and the screw spacing. It’s 35mm on most Barrette doors, but we’ve seen 26mm on some compact lines. That single measurement saves more bad purchases than anything else we tell people.

For OEM parts, availability is spotty. Barrette has consolidated and rebranded over the years, so tracking down a factory hinge from a 2008 cabinet can mean weeks of waiting for an order that may or may not match. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Blum, Grass, and Salice are what we install in most cases. They’re built to the same bore patterns, they often outlast the original hardware, and we keep common sizes on the truck. The one place we insist on OEM is drawer box hardware and the cabinet frame-to-box connectors, where a 2mm difference in mounting depth means a drawer face that never sits flush.

Signs Your Barrette Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • A hinge clicks or pops when the door opens. That click is usually a worn internal spring or a hinge that’s drifted out of alignment. Left alone, it eventually stops holding the door at any angle and the door hangs loose or won’t stay closed.
  • A drawer sticks partway, then jerks free. The slide bearings have worn flat on one side or the slide has pulled away from the cabinet wall, which happens a lot when drawer boxes get overloaded. The longer it runs like that, the more the slide mount screws wallow out the cabinet side.
  • A door or drawer face doesn’t line up with its neighbor. This can be a hinge problem, but in Dallas it’s often the cabinet box itself. Humidity cycles cause the boxes to expand and contract, and if the box was never screwed to the adjacent cabinet, doors that were perfectly gapped at install go out of plane over a few seasons.
  • Soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damper has blown or the catch mechanism is worn. A soft-close hinge that’s lost its damping is basically a standard hinge with a dead part, and it tends to take the door alignment with it over time.
  • You see a hairline crack running from a hinge cup outward. This is the one we flag immediately. It means the door material, usually MDF or particleboard with a thermofoil face, has fatigued around the hinge. A new hinge won’t fix it; the door itself needs to be replaced or remounted with a repair plate. In a Dallas kitchen that runs hot and cold and humid and dry, this failure shows up faster than homeowners expect.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

Kitchen remodeling in Dallas runs $14,000 – $45,000 for a full job. That range covers everything from a mid-sized gut with builder-grade cabinets and laminate tops on the low end, to a full custom layout with KraftMaid or Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria or Silestone countertops, and a full tile splash at the top. What drives the number up is cabinet line and countertop material more than anything else. A cabinet reface and new hardware lands at the bottom of that range. A full cabinet swap with Cambria quartz pushes toward the top.

For just the parts we’re talking about on this page, hardware replacement typically runs $200 – $600 per kitchen when we’re swapping hinges and drawer slides across the whole kitchen, parts and labor included. If it’s one drawer slide or two hinges, you’re looking at a $125 – $250 visit, which includes the truck roll, the parts, and the adjustment to get everything back in plane. Every job comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a hinge or slide fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee. The second visit is free. That’s been our standard since we started working under the Kingswell Way back in 2004.

Service Typical Dallas Price Range
Full kitchen remodel $14,000 – $45,000
Small kitchen remodel (galley, condo, rental) $9,000 – $20,000
Cabinet installation (full kitchen) $4,000 – $13,000
Countertop installation $2,000 – $6,500
Backsplash installation $800 – $2,500
Kitchen island installation $3,000 – $10,000
Hardware replacement visit (per kitchen) $125 – $600

You’ll get a written price before any work starts. Not a range, not a verbal ballpark. A number you can hold us to. And if I’m the one walking your kitchen in Dallas, I’m going to give you that number before I pick up a tool. That’s the only way I know how to start.

DIY or Call Us?

Cabinet hardware isn’t inherently dangerous to work on, and some of this you can absolutely handle yourself. Adjusting a sagging door with the screws on the hinge plate is a five-minute job with a Phillips screwdriver. Cleaning a sticky drawer slide and re-lubricating it with a dry silicone spray is safe and often buys you a year. Swapping a single standard hinge for an identical replacement is doable if you match the bore pattern and cup diameter.

Where DIY goes wrong is when the part doesn’t match and the fix becomes retrofitting. We’ve walked into Dallas kitchens where a homeowner drilled new holes for a mismatched hinge, split the door edge, and turned a $150 repair into a $400 door replacement. Soft-close hardware adds spring tension and a damper that’s awkward to hold in place while you get the screws started. The sensible split is this: if the part number matches exactly and the old one comes off clean, swap it. If anything is cracked, stripped, or out of plane, call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll come look at it. The estimate is free.
