Therma-Tru Windows & Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

We install and service Therma-Tru windows and doors throughout Dallas, and most replacement parts run $180 – $850 installed depending on the component and your model’s generation. If your Therma-Tru door won’t latch, a window crank spins without moving, or weatherstripping has flattened into a cold draft, we can usually match the part and have it working same-week. The telltale sign most Dallas homeowners call us about is usually one thing: air movement where there shouldn’t be any, or a lock that suddenly fights back.

Therma-Tru doesn’t sell direct to homeowners, which is exactly why this page exists. You’re left hunting through a parts diagram, guessing at a part number, or worse, buying a “universal” replacement that doesn’t fit the mortise or hinge prep. We’ve done enough of these to know the part numbers, the common failure points in North Texas heat, and what a fair Dallas market price looks like before we ever pick up a tool.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Therma-Tru’s current fiberglass door lines run under the Classic-Craft, Pulse, Smooth-Star, and Fiber-Classic names. Window lines include their vinyl and fiberglass units sold through dealers, though doors dominate what we see in Dallas homes. The critical thing to know: Therma-Tru uses proprietary sill designs and hinge preps, particularly on Classic-Craft and Pulse models, so a big-box “standard” threshold or sweep often won’t seat right.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches people: Therma-Tru has changed bottom-sweep profiles at least three times over the past 20 years. A sweep listed as “Therma-Tru compatible” online may fit a 2015 Fiber-Classic but not a 2008 Smooth-Star. We identify the part by checking the door edge stamp (usually a code etched near the hinge barrel on the slab) or by pulling the existing sweep and matching the channel profile. Aftermarket sweeps from brands like MD Building Products can work well at 30 – 40% below OEM cost, but only when the channel width and retention barb match. OEM is the safer path on anything involving the sill cap or adjustable threshold, where tolerances matter more.

One more Dallas-specific reality: UV and heat don’t kill fiberglass skins quickly, but they absolutely destroy the urethane core adhesion in doors that face west. We see more warped slabs and failed corner joints on west-facing doors than any other single issue. A 15-year-old Classic-Craft that’s been baking in August sun since 2010 isn’t necessarily a lost cause, but it’s often the moment the owner has to decide between a part swap and a full door replacement.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Visible daylight under the door – The adjustable threshold has reached the top of its travel or the sweep has compressed flat. You’re losing conditioned air every minute and inviting roaches and dust in, both of which Dallas has in abundance.
  • The lock or deadbolt binds – Hinges have sagged or the slab has shifted seasonally. In Dallas’s clay soil, the rough opening moves more than the door does, which is why a latch that worked fine in March suddenly won’t throw in August.
  • Condensation between glass panes – The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Once argon escapes and moist air gets in, no repair fixes it; the IGU gets replaced. We can swap Therma-Tru glazing without touching the frame.
  • Corner joint separation on a fiberglass door – A gap opens at the top or bottom of the stile where the skin meets the corner pad. This is heat-related core stress, and it means the slab is losing structural integrity at the worst possible stress point.
  • Weatherstripping that’s ragged or peeling – Flattened, cracked, or torn Q-Lon or kerf gasket. It looks cosmetic, but it’s the difference between a 94-degree Dallas afternoon staying outside and creeping up your hallway.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Here’s what Therma-Tru replacement parts and door-level work run in Dallas right now:

  • Bottom sweep replacement: $45 – $110 installed (part plus 30 – 45 minutes of labor; aftermarket vs OEM affects price)
  • Adjustable threshold replacement: $180 – $420 installed (OEM Therma-Tru threshold, sill cap, and proper shimming)
  • Full weatherstripping kit (sides and top): $120 – $280 installed
  • Hinge replacement or realignment: $85 – $250 per hinge set, depending on whether the slab needs to be reset
  • Multipoint lock assembly rebuild: $350 – $750 installed (common on Classic-Craft and Pulse models with Tru-Defense hardware)
  • Full door replacement (Therma-Tru slab): $1,800 – $4,500 installed, depending on slab series, lite package, and whether the frame can be reused

The number you get from us is the number on the invoice. That’s not a sales line; it’s how we run every job from a cabinet pull to a full kitchen gut-out. Parts and labor are shown separately, and if we’re replacing a part rather than rebuilding the unit, you’ll see exactly what the component costs before we touch anything.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this work is genuinely approachable. Cleaning a track, lubricating a latch, even swapping a bottom sweep if you can match the channel profile – those are reasonable Saturday-morning jobs if you’re patient and take the old part with you to match it. What isn’t smart to DIY is anything involving the threshold or hinges. A threshold that’s shimmed wrong puts stress on the slab and the lock, and you’ll chase that misalignment for months. Hinges carry the full weight of a fiberglass slab; reset them wrong and you’ve made the problem structurally worse, not better.

If you’ve opened the door and seen that the corner joint has separated, or the multipoint lock mechanism is grinding rather than sliding, call us. Trevor Nash has seen enough of these that he can usually tell you over the phone whether it’s a fix-it-today part swap or a plan-for-replacement conversation. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll help you figure out what you’re actually looking at.
