Mr-Glass Roofing: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If your Mr-Glass skylight or glass roof panel has cracked, fogged, or started leaking, you’re in the right place. We stock Mr-Glass-compatible replacement glazing, seals, and flashing for Dallas homes, and a typical glass panel replacement runs $600 – $2,500 installed depending on size and whether the curb or frame needs rebuilding. We can usually have a technician out to inspect within one business day. Most Dallas owners discover the failure the way you probably did: a water stain on the ceiling after a hard spring storm, or a hairline crack that appeared after a hail event near White Rock Lake.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass has produced several lines of residential sloped glazing and skylight units over the years, and the parts are not all interchangeable. The most common units we see in Dallas are the curb-mounted fixed skylights, the vented models with a manual crank or scissor operator, and the larger structural glass roof sections used on sunrooms and patio enclosures. The single biggest compatibility gotcha is this: Mr-Glass changed their frame extrusion profile around 2011, so a seal or retainer clip from a pre-2011 unit will not seat correctly in a newer frame. If you can find the etched label on the inside corner of the glass (it shows the manufacturing code and date), take a photo of it before you call us. It saves a second trip. For glass replacement, OEM Mr-Glass glazing is available for many units, but a quality aftermarket insulated glass unit (IGU) from a Dallas-area fabricator often carries a better condensation warranty and costs 20 – 30% less. We’ll quote you both options. Penhallow Remodeling Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mr-Glass.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Roofing Is Failing
- Condensation between the glass panes. This means the IGU seal has failed and argon gas has escaped. The fog won’t wipe off because it’s trapped inside. The fix is a new IGU, not a sealant job.
- Water stains on the ceiling or drywall below the unit. On curb-mounted skylights, this usually points to a failed curb flashing or a cracked curb corner, not the glass itself. We see this a lot on older Oak Cliff bungalows where the original copper flashing has finally let go.
- A visible crack running corner to corner. Hail is the usual culprit in Dallas, and once a crack spans the pane, the structural integrity is gone. Even a non-leaking crack will grow with thermal cycling.
- The operator crank or scissor arm fights you. On vented Mr-Glass units, a stiff or grinding crank means the operator mechanism is corroded or the hinge arms have slipped. Forcing it usually bends the arm beyond repair.
- You can hear wind whistling through a closed unit. The gaskets and weatherseals on the vented sash degrade in Texas UV, and once they shrink, you lose both the seal and the insulation value.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard curb-mounted Mr-Glass skylight in Dallas, expect $600 – $1,200 for a straightforward IGU replacement. Larger structural glass roof sections run $1,500 – $2,500 when the existing frame is sound, and more if the curb, flashing, or rafters need rebuilding. What drives the number: glass size and thickness, whether it’s tempered or laminated, curb height, roof pitch, and how much of the original flashing can be salvaged. We give you a written price before any work starts, and it includes the part, labor, sealants, disposal, and a written warranty on the install. If a roof repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe middle ground here. You can photograph the label, measure the visible glass (inside the frame, edge to edge), and check the attic for daylight around the curb. What you should not attempt is swapping a sloped glazing IGU yourself. Tempered glass under tension, working off a ladder on a sloped roof, and getting the drainage plane wrong on the flashing are three separate ways to turn a $900 repair into a $4,000 water damage claim. We’ve also seen homeowners install the wrong thickness glass and then crack it at the first freeze. If the unit is within reach of a ladder and you just want confirmation before spending anything, call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing. Give you a number before I pick up a tool, that’s the only way I know how to start.
FAQs

In Dallas, the IGU seal typically lasts 15 – 20 years, while the frame and flashing can go 25 – 30 years if maintained. Texas UV and hail accelerate seal failure compared to cooler climates. If you’re past year 15 and seeing condensation, you’re on schedule for a replacement. Call (940) 204-5368 for an exact assessment.
No. A failed IGU seal or a cracked pane cannot be reliably repaired; the glass unit must be replaced. What can sometimes be repaired are the surrounding components, like flashing or the crank operator. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with.
A standard IGU replacement on a curb-mounted Mr-Glass unit takes half a day from setup to cleanup. Larger structural sections or units that need curb rebuilding can run a full day. We’ll give you an arrival window and a completion time in writing before work starts.
We keep common seal profiles, gaskets, retainers, and flashing on the truck for the most common Mr-Glass frame sizes. Glass is cut to order by a Dallas-area fabricator, which usually adds two to three business days. We also stock and install parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products when the job intersects with cabinetry or countertop work.
No. The written price we give you before the job is the number on the invoice. The only exception is if we uncover rotted decking or a failed curb that wasn’t visible during the estimate, and we walk you through that before touching it, with a new written number. Call (940) 204-5368 to schedule your free estimate.
