CWS Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
Most CWS driveway and paver failures in Dallas come down to one of three things: a shifting base, a cracked edge restraint, or a paver that’s spalled from years of Texas sun and freeze-thaw cycles. We stock CWS-compatible replacement pavers, edge restraints, polymeric sand, and base materials for same-week installation, and a typical CWS paver repair runs $350 – $1,800 depending on how much of the surface has failed. Owners usually spot the problem when a paver rocks underfoot near the garage apron or water pools in a low spot that wasn’t there last spring.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS driveway systems fall into three main lines: the Permeable Paver Series, the Interlocking Concrete Paver Series, and the Slab Paver Series. The Permeable line uses wider joints (typically 1/4 inch or more) with open-graded aggregate below, while the Interlocking series uses tighter joints with polymeric sand. If you still have the original invoice or a paver from the project, flip it over: CWS stamps a mold code on the bottom of most pavers made after 2012. That code tells us the exact color blend and thickness, which matters because mixing a 60mm paver into a 80mm field creates a trip hazard you’ll feel every time you walk it.
Penhallow Remodeling Dallas is an independent contractor, not a CWS dealer or affiliate. We install genuine CWS pavers when they’re available through our Dallas suppliers, and we also carry quality aftermarket equivalents for discontinued colors and older molds. For most Dallas driveways, an aftermarket paver from a Texas supplier will match within a shade or two after a season of sun exposure. But if your CWS install is under five years old, we recommend staying with genuine CWS so the color and texture stay consistent.

Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Pavers rocking or shifting underfoot near the edges. This almost always means the edge restraint has cracked or pulled away from the paver field. Without a solid border holding the pavers in compression, they spread outward and loosen.
- Water pooling in areas that used to drain. Dallas clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and over time it can push sections of your paver base upward or create voids underneath. A low spot that holds water for more than an hour after a storm is a sign the base has settled.
- Polymeric sand washing out between joints. Once the joint sand erodes, pavers start rubbing against each other. You’ll see hairline chips along the edges, and weeds will find the gaps within a season.
- Surface flaking or pitting on individual pavers. This is spalling, and it’s common on older CWS pavers that sat under sprinkler overspray or winter ice melt. The top layer of the paver separates from the body, leaving a rough, crumbling surface.
- A visible dip or heave across the driveway. In Dallas, we regularly see driveway sections shift after a summer of drought followed by heavy fall rain. The clay underneath swells unevenly, and the pavers follow the movement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For CWS driveway and paver work in Dallas, most repairs fall between $350 and $1,800. A single-paver replacement with joint sand touch-up runs $350 – $600. A section repair covering 100 – 200 square feet, including re-compacting the base and re-installing edge restraint, typically runs $900 – $1,800. A full CWS paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver thickness, and whether we’re pulling out an old concrete slab first.
Every quote is a written number before we start. That price includes the pavers or materials, the base work, disposal of failed material, joint sand, and a written guarantee on the repair. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. No change orders, no “we found something” conversation after demo day.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things without help: walk the paver field and mark which pavers rock, note where water pools after rain, and look at the edge restraints where the driveway meets the grass or curb. You can also lift a loose paver by hand and look at what’s underneath. If you see crumbling base material or a void, that’s not a surface fix. If the pavers are lifting because tree roots pushed in from a nearby live oak or because the driveway edge dropped two inches toward the alley, patching the top will fail again inside a year.
Heavy pavers and base re-compaction are not a weekend project. A 60mm paver weighs about 25 pounds, and moving a few hundred of them is how backs get thrown out. We bring plate compactors, the right aggregate, and a crew that does this in a day or two instead of a month of weekends. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll give you a straight number before we pick up a tool. That’s the only way I know how to start.
FAQs

A properly installed CWS paver driveway in Dallas should last 25 to 30 years with periodic joint sand top-ups and the occasional edge restraint repair. The pavers themselves rarely fail; it’s almost always the base, the joints, or the edges that give out first. Call (940) 204-5368 for a condition check and an honest answer on what’s worth fixing.
A spalled paver cannot be meaningfully repaired. The damage is in the top wear layer, and surface patching will flake off inside a season. Replacing the individual paver is the only fix that holds. The good news is one paver swap is usually under $600 installed, and we can match the color from the mold code on the back. Call us at (940) 204-5368 with a photo and the code, and we’ll tell you what it costs.
Most section repairs take one day for removal and base work, then a second morning visit for paver re-installation and joint sand, so plan on about a day and a half. Single-paver swaps are done in under an hour. Full driveway replacements usually run three to five working days depending on the teardown.
We stock common CWS paver sizes and color blends with our Dallas suppliers, and we pull discontinued colors through aftermarket sources when needed. You don’t need to order anything. Call (940) 204-5368 with your paver’s mold code, and we’ll confirm availability and give you a written price before we schedule.
While CWS is our focus on this page, we also work with parts and materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on kitchen and bath projects across Dallas.
