Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible paver driveway systems across Dallas, and a full paver driveway replacement typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver line, and what’s hiding under the old surface. If you’re seeing sunken pavers, spreading cracks, or edge crumbling, the failure is almost always in the base layer rather than the pavers themselves. Here’s how to tell what’s actually wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether it’s a weekend job or a crew job.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas produces several paver lines used in Dallas driveways, with the most common being their Holland, Cobble, and Permeable series. The Holland pavers run roughly 60mm thick for residential driveways, while the Cobble line tends to run 50 – 80mm depending on the traffic rating. The Permeable series is built differently: wider joint gaps let water drain through, which matters in Dallas where heavy spring storms can turn a standard paver driveway into a sheet of runoff if the base wasn’t graded right.
Identifying your exact Atlas paver means checking the underside of a lifted unit for a mold stamp or color code. But compatibility goes deeper than paver shape. The real gotcha is joint sand and edge restraint. Atlas permeable pavers need specific open-graded aggregate between joints, not standard polymeric sand, or the drainage system stops working. We’ve corrected more than a few Dallas driveways where someone re-sanded an Atlas permeable job with fine silica sand and clogged the whole system inside a year.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Atlas pavers themselves don’t have an “aftermarket” equivalent the way appliance parts do. What varies is the bedding sand, geotextile fabric, and base aggregate. The paver on top is the pretty part. The engineering underneath is where Dallas installs live or die. We use the base spec Atlas publishes for the specific series, not whatever crushed rock is on sale that week.
Penhallow Remodeling Dallas is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Atlas, but we work with their product specifications daily and stock Atlas-compatible replacement pavers and joint materials for the most common Dallas driveway applications.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or dipping pavers in the wheel path. This nearly always means the road base underneath wasn’t compacted in lifts, or water is eroding it away. You can’t fix this by pulling and resetting a few pavers. The base has to be dug out and rebuilt in that section.
- Large cracks running across multiple pavers. One cracked paver is a replacement. A crack line running across ten pavers in a straight line means the base underneath has failed, and that line will come back even if you replace every broken paver on top.
- Edge pavers shifting outward. The edge restraint has failed, usually because it was a thin plastic strip instead of a rigid concrete or aluminum edge. Once the edge lets go, the whole field starts to spread.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. This traps you in a loop: sand in, rain, sand out. The real cause is usually poor drainage or insufficient slope. A proper fix means grading the base to move water off the driveway, not just re-sanding every few months.
- Weeds or grass pushing up through joints. This usually means the geotextile fabric beneath the base was skipped or ripped during install. Pulling weeds buys you weeks. Replacing the fabric layer is the actual repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard two-car paver driveway in Dallas, figure $7,000 – $18,000 for a full removal and reinstall of Atlas-compatible pavers. Smaller driveways or partial repairs in one section can run lower. Larger driveways, permeable systems with the added drainage layer, and jobs that need heavy regrading land at the top of that range or above.
What drives the number is the base work. If the old base is stable and just the top layer needs replacement, the job is simpler and cheaper. If the base has failed, which is the case in most Dallas driveways we see that are more than ten years old, we’re hauling out everything above the soil and building a new compacted base from scratch. Parts and labor are broken out on every written quote, so you’ll see exactly what the pavers cost and exactly what the labor and base materials cost.
Every job from Penhallow Remodeling Dallas includes a written price before any work starts, a defined arrival window, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise on the finished driveway. If something fails inside that year because of our workmanship, we come back and fix it at no charge, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things any homeowner can check without touching a paver. Walk the driveway after a rain and look for standing water. Mark any dipped or wobbling pavers with chalk. Check whether the outer edge looks straight or has started to bow outward. That tells you what you’re dealing with before anyone shows up.
Pulling and resetting a paver or two can go fine if the base underneath is solid. The problems start when a homeowner lifts a sunken paver, sees loose soil, digs it out, drops in a bag of sand, and puts the paver back. It looks right for about two months. The paver sinks again. Rebuilding base layers is compacted-lift work, and doing it by hand with a tamper rarely gets the density a plate compactor does. It’s also back work, plain and simple.
Heavy pavers are not a high-tension hazard like a garage door spring, but moving 40-pound concrete units across a whole driveway is genuinely strenuous. If you’ve got a bad back or a bad knee, don’t start this one on a Saturday. Call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll give you a straight diagnosis and a written number, whether it’s five pavers or a full base rebuild.
FAQs

A properly installed Atlas paver driveway in Dallas should last 25 – 40 years with re-sanding every few years, though the base underneath is the real determinant of lifespan. Driveways built on stable, well-drained soil in neighborhoods like Lake Highlands or Canyon Creek tend to hold up longer than those on the expansive clay found in parts of southern Dallas, where soil movement is hard on any rigid surface. Call (940) 204-5368 for an assessment of your specific driveway, free.
Yes, if the failure is isolated to a small section and the base is still stable. We do partial repairs where the problem is confined to a low spot or a failed edge. The catch is that patching a base failure in one area while the rest of the base is aging means a second patch somewhere else in a few years. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you’re in. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll walk the driveway with you.
Most residential paver driveway replacements in Dallas take 3 – 5 working days from demo to final joint sand, depending on size, base condition, and access for equipment.
