IKO Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

IKO fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter job, with material choice and linear footage driving most of the spread. We keep IKO-compatible posts, rails, and pickets in stock on our trucks, so most repairs and replacements get started the same week you call. Owners usually find us after a storm blows a section loose, or after a gate sags hard enough that it drags across the concrete pad every time the kids leave it open.

Here’s the thing about IKO fence systems: they’re not vinyl, and they’re not wood. IKO makes composite and engineered fence components that are built to handle moisture better than lumber, but the failure point is almost never the material itself. It’s the installation underneath it. Post depth, concrete mix, and rail-to-post connection are where every IKO fence in Dallas eventually shows its age. We see it in Lewisville, Garland, Mesquite, and down through Duncanville, the same story every time: the pickets are fine, but the posts shifted and the rails started pulling at the fasteners.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO fence systems come in a few distinct lines, and they don’t all share parts. The most common in Dallas yards are the IKO Cambridge and IKO Armourshake composite picket lines, plus their standard square-rail aluminum post kits. You’ll find a small IKO stamp or a raised logo on the interior face of a picket near the bottom edge. Before you order anything, check that stamp and measure your post cross-section with a tape, 4×4 versus 5×5, because the post sleeves from one line will not slide over the other.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question, for IKO specifically, we lean OEM on the structural parts: post caps, rail brackets, and gate hardware. IKO’s rail brackets have a specific mounting tab height that generic vinyl brackets don’t match, and the result is a wobbly top rail that moves an inch every time the wind kicks up in spring. For pickets, quality aftermarket equivalents work fine if they match the thickness and the interlocking profile. We’ve seen aftermarket pickets from a big-box store look close enough, then warp within two summers because the wall thickness was thinner than the IKO original. The Dallas heat does not let a slightly-off part slide.

Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gaps opening at the picket seams. Composite pickets expand and contract with Dallas summer heat. If the original installer butt them too tight with no room to move, the seams pull apart and you see daylight through the fence line.
  • Posts leaning more than a few degrees off plumb. This is almost always a post-hole issue, not a material issue. A post set less than 24 inches deep in loamy North Texas clay will lean after the first wet winter. The fix is pulling the post and setting it properly, not shimming it straight.
  • Rails sagging or pulling away from the brackets. The IKO rail bracket holds the rail with a specific tab engagement. When the post shifts, the bracket twists, the tab loses its grip, and the rail starts dropping. You’ll notice it first at the gate hinge side.
  • Gate dragging or failing to latch. The gate is the highest-stress point on any IKO fence run. A gate that scraped clean yesterday and drags today is telling you the hinge post has moved, not that the gate hardware failed.
  • Fastener heads rusting and staining the pickets. Cheap zinc-plated screws in composite material stain fast. We use coated or stainless fasteners on every IKO job in Dallas because the humidity and rain will find any exposed steel.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

A full IKO fence installation in Dallas runs $3,500 to $9,000. At the low end, you’re looking at a straightforward perimeter with standard pickets, flat ground, and existing concrete removed by us. At the high end, you’re into taller privacy layouts, gate hardware upgrades, areas with hard digging like rocky soil in parts of Oak Cliff, and tear-out of the old fence line. Partial repairs, like swapping three posts and rehanging a section, run proportionally less and are quoted as a line item.

Every price we give is written before we start. Not a range on a napkin, a written number with parts and labor separated. Trevor Nash has a saying about how we start every job: give you a number before we pick up a tool, that’s the only way we know how to start. That number is the number on the invoice. If something fails on the workmanship side inside a year, our 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it at no charge. In writing, every time.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an owner can safely check on an IKO fence before calling. Walk the line with a level and mark which posts are off. Check the gate hinge screws for tightness. If a picket is cracked, a matching replacement is a reasonable weekend swap. Those checks take twenty minutes and help us quote the job faster when you do call.

Where DIY goes wrong is anything below ground or anything with tension on it. Pulling and resetting a post in Dallas clay means digging a hole 30 inches deep, mixing concrete, and bracing the post true while it sets. Gate springs and self-closing hinges are under load, and a cable gate spring releasing in your hand will do real damage. If the problem is below the soil line or involves a gate under tension, that’s a trained professional’s job. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll send someone who has set a hundred posts in this soil.
