IKO Windows & Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install IKO-compatible windows and doors across Dallas, with most replacement parts running $45 – $220 installed for hardware and $350 – $1,400 for full sash or panel swaps. If your IKO window won’t latch, your patio door drags, or a seal has gone cloudy, we can usually match the part and have it corrected the same week. The giveaway for most Dallas homeowners is a window that suddenly won’t stay open, a door that scrapes the frame on hot afternoons, or condensation between glass panes that never dries out.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO produces vinyl windows and sliding patio doors under a handful of series names, and the parts are not interchangeable across every line. The Crown series, the Royal series, and the Commander series each use slightly different balance systems and latch profiles, so a balance cartridge from a Crown window won’t seat correctly in a Royal frame even if the visible dimensions look close. The fastest way to identify what you have is to check the spacer bar between the glass panes for a printed code, or look for a white IKO sticker on the top edge of the sash or the hinge side of the door panel. If the label is gone, we measure the visible glass and the sash thickness to cross-reference the correct balance, pivot bar, or roller assembly.
When we quote a repair, we tell you whether an OEM IKO part is available or whether a quality aftermarket equivalent makes more sense. For high-wear items like patio door rollers and window balances, a well-made aftermarket part often outlasts the original, because IKO, like every manufacturer, builds to a price point. For visible items like lock sets and handles, we prefer OEM so the finish and mounting holes match exactly.

Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won’t stay up without a prop. This is a failed balance system. The spring or block-and-tackle cartridge inside the frame has worn out, and the window now weighs too much for the mechanism to hold. It’ll only get worse, and the risk of a dropped sash falling on someone’s fingers is real.
- Patio door scrapes or takes muscle to move. The rollers on the bottom of the door panel are worn flat or gummed with dust and pet hair. Dallas clay dust works its way into the roller bearings and chews them up faster than you’d expect.
- Lock won’t engage or the handle spins loosely. The latch keeper has drifted out of alignment, or the internal gear on the handle has stripped. This is a security problem, not just an annoyance. A door that won’t lock is an open invitation.
- Condensation or fog between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. There is no way to clean it out. The glass unit must be replaced, or you’ll live with a window that looks like a shower door.
- Draft around a closed window or door. The weatherstripping has compressed, or the sash has shifted out of plane from a failed corner joint. We see this most often on the west-facing elevations of Dallas homes, where afternoon sun bakes the vinyl and the framing shifts.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Penhallow charges a written flat price before any IKO window or door part goes in. Small hardware, like a replacement lock set or a pivot bar, typically lands between $45 and $120 installed. A full balance system swap on a double-hung window runs $160 – $280 per window. Patio door roller replacements run $180 – $320 per panel, and a replacement insulated glass unit for a fogged window runs $350 – $700 depending on size and glass package. A full sash replacement lands between $500 and $1,400 for larger or specialty glazing.
Those numbers include the part, the labor, and the cleanup. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s a written guarantee on every job, not a verbal assurance.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few checks any owner can do safely: clean the door track, tighten a loose handle screw, or read a sticker. But window balances are under spring tension. When a balance cartridge lets go during a DIY attempt, the sash drops and someone puts a hand through the glass or takes a broken pane across the forearm. Patio door panels are heavier than they look, and getting a 80-pound door off its track without the right lifting technique is a fast route to a crushed foot or a bent frame.
If the part you’re replacing is visible hardware, a careful homeowner can often match and swap it. If it’s a balance, a roller, or a sealed glass unit, call someone who does this every week. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll give you a written price before any tool comes off the truck.
FAQs

Plan on 15 to 25 years for a well-installed IKO window in Dallas before balances, weatherstripping, or seals need attention. The Texas sun beats west-facing units hardest, and those often fail the first.
The glass unit must be replaced. Fog between panes means the seal has failed. Call (940) 204-5368 for a measurement and a written price.
Most hardware and balance swaps take 30 to 90 minutes per window or door. A replacement sealed glass unit takes up to two weeks to fabricate, then about an hour to install.
We carry common IKO balances, rollers, and lock sets on the truck. Less common sizes and glass units are ordered to spec after we take measurements at your home.
