Sterling Kitchen Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you have a Sterling kitchen and a part of it has failed, or you’re planning a full Sterling kitchen remodel in Dallas, the typical installed project runs $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and layout changes. We stock and install Sterling-compatible cabinetry, sink bases, and hardware on a regular basis, and most repairs take one to two days once the part is in hand. The way owners usually find us: a drawer face has cracked along the grain, a hinge has stripped out of the cabinet box, or a sink base got wet and the bottom panel is swelling. It starts as a small annoyance and becomes a decision about whether to patch or replace.
Which Sterling Models This Applies To
Sterling kitchen cabinetry shows up in Dallas homes in a few distinct lines, and the compatibility picture is not always obvious. The older Sterling S series (often found in Oak Cliff and East Dallas houses built in the 1990s and early 2000s) uses face-frame construction with 1/2-inch side panels and concealed hinges that mount differently than the newer frameless Sterling line. If you’re matching a single door or drawer front, the critical measurements are the overlay (typically 1/2 inch on face-frame, full overlay on frameless), the hinge bore pattern (35mm for most concealed hinges), and the finish sheen: Sterling’s “natural maple” from 2003 is not the same color as the 2015 version, even with the same name. We always pull the part and match it in person rather than ordering off a photo. For OEM versus aftermarket: Sterling hardware like hinges and drawer glides is solid, but several of the original plastic drawer glides from the S series wear out faster than anything else on the box. We typically install a quality aftermarket soft-close glide from Blum or Salice rather than reusing an OEM glide that is going to fail again in five years. The cabinet box itself, if it’s plywood rather than particleboard, is generally worth keeping and working around; a full gut-out is not always the right answer.

Signs Your Sterling Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer front is pulling away from the box. The original glue joint has dried out and the mechanical fasteners were staples into particleboard. We see this most often on the silverware drawer and the pot-and-pan drawer, which carry more weight than the hardware was designed for. The fix is a re-glue with a construction adhesive and adding real wood cleats inside the drawer box.
- Hinge screws have stripped out of the door. This happens when the original hinge only had a 3/8-inch screw biting into 1/2-inch particleboard. We drill, fill with a hardwood dowel, and remount with longer screws, which buys you the door rather than a new one.
- Sink base bottom is soft or stained. A slow drip under the sink that has been ignored for a season will delaminate the cabinet floor. By the time you feel it, the particleboard has to be replaced or sistered with a plywood panel. Just painting it over doesn’t address the structural loss.
- Doors are out of alignment and won’t stay adjusted. On older Sterling face-frame cabinets, the original hinge plates lose their grip on the face frame. If you’ve adjusted the same door three times in a year, the hinge is done, not the adjustment screw.
- Moldings or trim are separating from the box. Dallas humidity swings cause expansion and contraction, and the original pin nails eventually back out. This is mostly cosmetic, but if it’s happening on the cabinet above the range or dishwasher, that’s a sign of heat cycling wearing out the adhesive.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full kitchen remodel with Sterling cabinets in Dallas typically lands between $14,000 and $45,000. A smaller kitchen with stock boxes and a laminate countertop runs toward the lower end, and a larger layout with custom cabinet configurations, Cambria or Silestone quartz, and a reworked island can push the number up. What drives the range is not the cabinet brand, honestly. It’s the linear feet of cabinetry, whether the boxes are stock or modified, the countertop material and square footage, and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical to change the layout. A cabinet-only install runs $4,000 – $13,000, and countertops land at $2,000 – $6,500. Every Penhallow quote in Dallas is a written number before work starts, so the figure we give you is the figure on the invoice. No change orders because we missed a measurement on site. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside the guarantee period, we return and fix it at no charge, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
There is not much about kitchen remodeling that carries the same physical danger as a garage door spring or a live electrical panel, but the financial danger is real. We’ve walked into Dallas kitchens where an owner pulled a cabinet to re-level it and tore the back panel because the box was hung with screws into drywall only. What you can safely check yourself: open every drawer and cabinet, see where things are sagging, look under the sink with a flashlight for water staining, and take photos of the hinge style on a working cabinet so you know what to match. What we’d rather you not do: start pulling boxes off the wall, attempt to re-glue drawer fronts with the wrong adhesive, or resize a cabinet opening with a circular saw while the cabinet is still installed. If the part is loose, you can snug a hinge screw and get a week or two. If the parts are failed, call (940) 204-5368 for a straight assessment. We’ll tell you if it’s a repair or a replace, and the number is in writing either way.
FAQs

In a dry, well-maintained Dallas kitchen, the boxes will last 25 to 30 years, but the hinges, drawer glides, and sink base usually need attention somewhere around the 15-year mark. The climate matters more than the brand; the humidity swings between summer and winter put real stress on glued joints and particleboard panels.
If the panel is solid wood, it can usually be re-glued and refinished. If it’s a lamination over particleboard, the crack is almost always the beginning of the panel letting go, and replacement is the honest fix. We’ll always look at the panel in person before we suggest you pay for anything. Call (940) 204-5368 to have us take a look.
A single cabinet repair, like a drawer front replacement or re-gluing a sink base, takes one to two days once the part is matched. A full kitchen remodel runs two to six weeks depending on countertop fabrication, plumbing moves, and cabinet lead time. We quote a schedule the same way we quote a price, in writing before any work starts.
We keep common hardware on the truck: Blum and Salice soft-close glides, 35mm concealed hinges in the standard overlays, shelf pins, and a range of wood tones for touch-up. A full replacement door or drawer front in a specific Sterling finish is ordered from a local supplier and typically arrives inside a week. We also carry parts and matched cabinet lines for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects. Call (940) 204-5368 and we can tell you over the phone whether we have the part or need to order it.
