Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you have a Wellborn cabinet with a failed hinge, a drawer that won’t stay closed, or a door that’s pulling away from its frame, we stock and install the replacement hardware in Dallas for $180 to $650 per cabinet, depending on what’s worn. Most Wellborn hardware repairs take under an hour on site. The question we hear most from homeowners is whether they can keep the cabinet or need to replace it, and the answer is usually keep it. Wellborn builds solid face-frame cabinets, but the moving hardware takes decades of daily abuse, and eventually every hinge, slide, or catch reaches the end of its service life.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn has run several cabinet lines over the years, and each one uses slightly different hardware. The biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Dallas is between the Wellborn Estate and Wellborn Premier series: Estate cabinets shipped with a 1/2-inch overlay hinge, while Premier uses a full 1/2-inch overlay with a different mounting screw pattern. If you grab the wrong hinge off a shelf at a big-box store, the door will hang crooked no matter how many times you adjust it.
To identify what you need, look inside the door or drawer box. Wellborn stamps a date code and series mark on the inside of the cabinet frame, usually near the top hinge or on the drawer box side. If the label is gone, measure the hinge cup diameter. Most Wellborn doors are bored for a 35mm cup, but a handful of narrow-stile doors from the early 2000s used a 26mm cup. That 9mm difference is enough to make an aftermarket hinge useless.
For Wellborn cabinets, we recommend OEM hinges and slides when they’re still available. Wellborn’s hardware was sourced from Blum and Salice for most of its production run, and those parts are still available through trade suppliers. Aftermarket equivalents work in a pinch, but the soft-close resistance and the hole alignment are never quite identical. Since we’re an independent Dallas contractor and not affiliated with Wellborn, we match the part to the cabinet rather than pushing one brand over another.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- The door sags and scrapes the frame below it. This is almost always a worn hinge knuckle or a stripped mounting screw. The hinge loses tension over years of opening and closing, and the door gradually drops. If you catch it early, it’s a fifteen-minute hinge swap.
- The drawer slams shut instead of gliding. Wellborn’s older drawer guides were side-mount epoxy-coated slides, and the nylon rollers inside them flatten over time. Once the roller is flat, the drawer rides on metal against metal. You’ll hear it before you see it.
- The soft-close mechanism stopped catching. Blum and Salice soft-close pistons have a small rubber damper inside that hardens with age and Texas heat. When it hardens, the piston stops resisting, and the door slams. This part is replaceable without removing the hinge.
- The door won’t stay fully closed. This usually means the catch or touch-latch is shot, or the door has warped slightly with Dallas humidity swings. If the door is warped more than 1/8 inch, no catch will hold it, and the door needs professional adjustment or replacement.
- The hinge pulls out of the frame. This happens when a cabinet was installed with screws that were too short, or when the frame is particleboard rather than solid hardwood. Wellborn used solid hardwood for most face frames, but a few builder-grade lines used MDF. If the screw hole is stripped, we drill, dowel, and reset it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Dallas, Wellborn cabinet hardware repair runs $180 to $650 per cabinet, depending on how much has worn and what needs replacing. A single hinge swap on one door sits at the low end. A full drawer replacement with new guides, a new drawer box, and new soft-close hardware lands at the high end. If the entire cabinet box has failed, the conversation changes, and you’re looking at a kitchen remodel starting around $14,000 for a small kitchen.
The price we quote includes the parts, the labor, the trip, and adjustment of every door and drawer on that cabinet so they all sit square. Most Wellborn repairs take one visit. If we open the cabinet and find the frame itself is cracked or the box is pulling away from the wall, we’ll stop, show you exactly what we found, and give you a second written price for the additional repair before we do anything else. No surprise invoice at the end of the job.
DIY or Call Us?
If the door is loose and you can see the screw backing out, go ahead and tighten it. If the drawer is sticking, you can wipe the slides with a dry rag and that’s about it. Beyond that, Wellborn cabinet hardware is surprisingly easy to make worse. The most common DIY mistake we fix in Dallas kitchens is a homeowner who overtightens a hinge screw and splits the face frame. A split frame is a $200 repair that started as a five-minute fix. Or someone swaps a hinge without matching the cup depth and the door sits 1/8 inch proud of the cabinet, throwing off every other door on that run.
None of this is high-tension or dangerous like a garage spring, so if you’re handy and want to try it, we won’t stop you. But if you’d rather have it right the first time, call us at (940) 204-5368 and we’ll match the part to your cabinet line before we even knock on the door.
FAQs

Wellborn hinges and slides typically last 15 to 25 years in a Dallas kitchen, though the soft-close dampers tend to fail first, often by year 10 to 12. Texas heat accelerates damper hardening, so cabinets on a south-facing wall wear out faster than those in a shaded corner. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll tell you straight whether the part is worth replacing or if the cabinet needs real work.
A hinge with a stripped screw hole can often be repaired by doweling and re-drilling the frame, which costs less than replacing the cabinet. A hinge with a cracked knuckle or a flattened spring can’t be repaired and should be swapped for a new OEM part. We’ll look at it in person and tell you which one you have.
Most single-cabinet hardware repairs take under an hour on site, including adjusting the door so it sits square with its neighbors. A full kitchen with a dozen or more sagging doors might take half a day. Call (940) 204-5368 for a time estimate once we know how many cabinets are involved.
We keep common Wellborn hinges, soft-close pistons, and drawer slides on the truck for same-day replacement, and we can source series-specific parts from trade suppliers within a few days. We’re not a Wellborn dealer, so we match parts to your cabinet rather than clearing out whatever’s on a shelf. If you have KraftMaid, Cambria, or Silestone finishes in the same kitchen, tell us when you call and we’ll plan the visit around everything at once.
