KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Dallas that will carry KraftMaid cabinetry, the full project typically runs $45,000 – $130,000 for the addition itself, or $90,000 – $220,000 for a complete ADU build. We install and integrate KraftMaid cabinets into additions and ADUs across Dallas as part of our remodeling work, and we’re an independent contractor, not a KraftMaid dealership or affiliate. Most homeowners reach out to us not because a cabinet part failed, but because they’ve outgrown a kitchen, need a rental unit, or want aging parents close by, and they want the new space to match the KraftMaid quality they already have elsewhere in the house.
Here’s the honest picture on KraftMaid and additions: the cabinetry itself is rarely the problem. What fails first in Dallas additions and ADUs is what’s behind or beneath those cabinets. Foundation movement in North Texas clay soil, poor rough-in framing, and HVAC ductwork that was never sized for added square footage. When we pull base cabinets in an older Dallas room addition, we regularly find moisture damage along the bottom rails because the slab wasn’t properly moisture-sealed before flooring went down. The KraftMaid boxes may be fine. The installation environment wasn’t.
We carry replacement hinges, drawer glides, shelf pins, and touch-up kits for KraftMaid lines on our trucks. If a section of cabinetry in your addition has failed, we can often match the door profile and finish from KraftMaid’s current catalog. But the bigger conversation is usually about whether the addition itself was built correctly in the first place.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid has shifted its lineup over the years, and that matters when you’re trying to match a cabinet in an existing addition or spec new ones for an ADU. The current catalog breaks down into Vantage, Vantage Plus, and Venetian lines, each with different construction specs, door profiles, and finish availability. Vantage is the entry line with a limited finish palette and standard overlay doors. Vantage Plus adds more wood species, glazed finishes, and full-access drawers. Venetian is KraftMaid’s semi-custom tier with inset door options and deeper drawer boxes.
The compatibility gotcha most Dallas homeowners hit: KraftMaid changed its hinge boring pattern on certain lines around 2018. If you have pre-2018 KraftMaid cabinets in an older addition and need replacement doors, the new doors won’t fit the old hinge cups without either new hinge hardware or a bored-hole adapter. We check the hinge manufacturer stamp first, it’s usually Blum or Grass, and that tells us what generation of cabinet we’re working with.
For a new ADU, we spec KraftMaid from the current catalog and work from a measured drawing with a KraftMaid dealer. For an existing addition, we match what’s already installed when possible. The label inside the drawer box or behind the door has the line name and production date. If the label is gone, we measure the overlay and check the hinge style to narrow it down. When exact match isn’t possible, a quality aftermarket door from a local Dallas cabinet shop can be built to match the profile for roughly the same price as OEM, and we’ve done that more times than I can count.

Signs Your KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
Not every problem in an addition or ADU is a cabinet problem. Here’s what we actually see on service calls in Dallas, and what’s usually behind it.
- Doors that stick or won’t close square. In an addition, this usually means the floor has moved. Dallas clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and a slab on grade can shift enough to rack cabinet frames out of square. In an ADU built on piers, it’s the pier settlement doing it. The cabinet isn’t the problem, but the cabinet shows the symptom first.
- Drawer boxes that sag or rails that bind. KraftMaid’s standard drawer glides are rated around 75 to 100 pounds on full extension models. If someone loaded a pot drawer past that, the rail bends slightly and the drawer starts catching. This one is a real part failure, and it’s a quick swap.
- Finish flaking or discoloring on lowers. In Texas heat, especially in an unconditioned garage conversion or an ADU without a proper vapor barrier, the moisture rising through the slab collects under lower cabinets. The finish on the toe kick and bottom rail is the first to fail. We see this in older Oak Cliff bungalows and in newer ADUs where the slab was poured without a poly vapor barrier.
- Hinges that loosen repeatedly. If you’ve tightened the same hinge three times this year, the wood behind it is compressed or split. KraftMaid boxes are mostly particleboard construction on the Vantage line and plywood on Plus and above. Once particleboard loses its bite around a hinge screw, tightening won’t fix it. The fix is a new hinge cup with a repair plate or a new door.
- Musty smell inside a base cabinet. That’s a water source, not a cabinet defect. It could be a slow drain leak under the sink, a dishwasher drain line that’s dripping, or moisture wicking from the slab. We pull the toe kick and check the subfloor before we ever order a replacement cabinet.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Let’s separate two very different numbers. If you need a single KraftMaid cabinet door or drawer front replaced in an existing Dallas addition, you’re looking at roughly $150 – $600 OEM depending on the line, finish, and whether it’s a stocked door or a special order. If a full new cabinet run goes into an addition or ADU, KraftMaid cabinetry for a modest kitchen typically runs $4,000 – $13,000 installed, and countertops add another $2,000 – $6,500 depending on material.
For the addition itself in Dallas, expect $45,000 – $130,000 depending on square footage, foundation type, and whether it’s a bump-out or a full room. A complete detached ADU with kitchen, bath, and KraftMaid cabinets runs $90,000 – $220,000 here, with the spread driven by permits, utility runs, slab work, and finish level. Every quote we write includes the line-item price for cabinetry, the labor to install it, and a written warranty that covers the work for 365 days. If a door warps or a hinge fails inside that window, we come back and fix it at no charge.
What drives the cabinet portion up or down: the line you choose (Vantage vs. Venetian), whether you want glazed or painted finishes, full extension drawers vs. standard, and whether the addition requires custom filler panels or angled corner cabinets to fit a non-standard wall.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinetry doesn’t carry the same safety risk as high-tension springs or live electrical, so if you want to swap a drawer glide or a hinge yourself, that’s fair game. The part usually costs $10 – $40, and KraftMaid’s glides are simple to change with a Phillips head. What I’d tell a neighbor: adjust the door first before you assume the cabinet is out of square. Most door misalignment is a hinge adjustment, not a rebuild.
Where DIY goes wrong is when the floor or the framing is the actual problem. If your addition’s slab has moved, no cabinet adjustment will fix it for long. That’s the kind of thing I grew up learning to spot, first on foundation repair crews in Los Angeles and now on jobs from Oak Cliff to White Rock Lake. We’ll come out, check the floor with a level, check the cabinet frames, and tell you honestly whether you need a $20 part or a foundation conversation. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll put a time on the calendar, along with a written price before any work starts. That’s the only way I know how to start.
FAQs

A properly built addition in Dallas should last 50+ years on the structural side, and KraftMaid cabinetry typically holds up 15 – 25 years of daily use before door hinges, drawer glides, or finishes need work. The wildcard in Dallas is the foundation, so we recommend a soil test and pier design review on any addition over 200 square feet.
Hinges, drawer glides, shelf clips, and door bumpers can almost always be repaired with OEM-matching parts, usually the same day. If the cabinet box itself is water-damaged or the particleboard has lost structural integrity, replacement is the honest fix. Call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll tell you which one you’re looking at.
Cabinetry installation in a new addition or ADU typically takes two to five working days, depending on the cabinet count and whether any custom filler or trim pieces are needed. The full addition or ADU project runs longer, but the cabinet phase itself is measured in days, not weeks.
We stock common KraftMaid-compatible hinges, drawer glides, shelf pins, and touch-up pens for current generation cabinets, and we can order OEM doors and drawer fronts for most Vantage, Vantage Plus, and Venetian lines. If you need a specific piece matched, call (940) 204-5368 and we’ll confirm the part before we schedule the visit.
